BHRT Q & A

What is BHRT?

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is a treatment that can rectify problems caused by imbalances in the body's natural hormone levels.

Hormones are chemical messengers that regulate most essential functions in your body, from growth and reproduction to digestion and metabolism. When there's a disruption of the delicate balance of hormones in your body, it can have profound effects on your health and well-being.

At Sedona Regenerative Medicine, Dr. Lanchbury uses BioTE® pellet therapy, compounded natural hormones, and nutraceutical supplementation.

How does BHRT work?

The idea behind BHRT is pretty straightforward. After identifying which hormones in your body are out of balance, Dr. Lanchbury prescribes the BHRT that restores your hormone levels to normal. It’s important to note that there are differences between regular hormone replacement therapy and the bioidentical type.

Hormone replacement therapy has been available for decades, but the prescriptions you get from many providers use lab-manufactured synthetic hormones. They're close to being the same as your natural hormones, but they do have some drawbacks.

First, synthetic hormones aren't as easy for your body to absorb and use because their molecular structure is different. BHRT uses natural plant hormones that have the same molecular structure as the hormones your body makes, so they're more readily absorbed.

Secondly, synthetic hormones don't make any allowance for the requirements of each patient. BHRT uses custom-compounding, which means the pharmacy prepares your medication according to Dr. Lanchbury's instructions, based on your unique needs.

What conditions can BHRT treat?

BHRT can treat a wide range of health problems, including:

  • Menopause symptoms
  • Andropause (male menopause)
  • Diabetes
  • Thyroid disease
  • Adrenal insufficiency
  • Brain fog
  • Low libido
  • Incontinence
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Adrenal and thyroid disorders
  • Osteoporosis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Some cancers

BHRT can also increase your energy levels, help with weight loss, and enhance muscle strength.

How do I take BHRT?

BHRT is available in several forms, but implants, where Dr. Lanchbury inserts tiny pellets the size of a rice grain under the skin on your buttocks, are one of the most foolproof. These BioTE pellets are a convenient way of receiving the required dose of hormones over long periods without taking medication.

Other methods of receiving BHRT include:

  • Injections
  • Creams
  • Patches
  • Gels

The method you use to take BHRT depends to a large extent on the type of treatment you need; for example, BioTE pellets contain either estrogen or testosterone. Dr. Lanchbury carefully considers your symptoms, medical history, and any other health issues you have before recommending the appropriate treatment.

No one should suffer the unpleasant symptoms of a hormone imbalance. To find out how BHRT could help you with your hormone problems, call Sedona Regenerative Medicine today or book an appointment online.
